Frequently Asked Questions

What is Wanderers Australia all about?

We are effectively a touring sports club. The programme is all about giving opportunities to players young and old to be a part of an international tour, which they may otherwise not ever get the opportunity to be a part of. It is open to players Australia wide. We have been involved with taking over 8000 young Australians on sporting tours overseas since 1997.

We provide international sporting opportunities and foster the next generation of athletes. Tour commitments extend beyond the field, supporting the development of social and emotional skills.

What about adult supervision on a junior tour?

On every tour we have a number of Wanderers Australia Tour Staff. These adults are all experienced people in looking after school aged students, and we are fortunate to have coaches that have extensive experience and who coach at elite representative level support our program.

For one team, we have two adults (coach and manager), and for two teams we have 3-4 adults (usually 2 coaches and a manager). All are experienced with many having a teaching background, but some also having an extensive coaching background in their chosen sport.

All tour staff must satisfy a thorough selection process, including background checks, having first aid/cpr and working with children’s checks before they are appointed to a tour.

We have a staff to player ratio of approx. 1 per 6-7 .

How many players tour and how many games do they play?

We usually take multiple teams on tour so we can cater to players of all levels, and then players can play with and against their own level. Levels of play are different across Australia. YOU CAN BE A REP PLAYER IN ONE PART OF AUSTRALIA BUT NOT NECESSARILY IN ANOTHER PART OF THE COUNTRY !

Who are our programs open to?

You can be a representative or state player in one part of the country but it does not necessarily mean that you are a state or rep player somewhere else. That is why we take multiple teams so players can play with and against their own level. Checks on players regarding their attitude and the way they conduct themselves off the field, are also done before being offered a place. We are looking for good people first, good players second.

Generally most players are local /regional rep level players ….and higher., but our ethos is that we never exclude a player based on level/ ability.

Is there any pathways or future development from the program?

Not formally, but from our experience, there is no doubt that players improve on the field by playing a very good level of their chosen sport with high level coaching, but just as important they will develop off the field.

Are family allowed to come along?

Absolutely! We have limited family places on our programs and family members are welcome to come along and be a part of the tour. We only allow parents, grandparents and siblings to join. If you would like for information on family pricing please contact us.
Players never room with family, always with their team mates.

Is there Travel Insurance?

A comprehensive travel insurance policy is included in the cost of the tour and is not an optional extra. The insurance that covers the players is specific to sports teams, and touring as a sporting team, as opposed to normal travel insurance for people on a holiday. As per the offer letter, kicks in when 2nd instalment is paid. If you with to insure the deposit amount you can as it is not covered. You will be covered after the 2nd instalment provided it is not a pre-exisiting condition
